Get up off your a%#!

Who knew that eating crap all day, every day could do this?! Oh...wait...I did. I don't like New Year's resolutions, but yesterday I got on the scale for some bizarre reason. I knew I had gained some weight because my clothes weren't fitting quite right. How did this happen?!

It seems my food intake went to hell hasn't quite been pristine since the Lizard King left the country. Okay, fine. I need to get back to my healthy Weston A Price/Nourishing Traditions way of eating. Done. Maybe it's even time to pull out my copy of Eat Fat, Lose Fat. Done.

Now to figure out how to incorporate a workout into my daily life. You see, I have this love/hate relationship with exercise. First off, I hate to wear shoes. Putting on big, clunky sneakers is a big deterrent to my working out. Going to a gym is out. That takes even more motivation than putting on sneakers. So not going to happen!

So that leaves a home workout. Perfect! I've got lots of fun workouts here. I have this awesome, gym quality, treadmill that I got for free (thank you Law of Attraction). I have the Wii Fit, but that started to get boring. I hated having to choose each exercise and wait for the annoying bitch narrator to finish talking. So what else is there?

I was out on my new favorite shopping site, Amazon (Amazon Prime rocks, by the way. Two day shipping!) and discovered EA Sports Active. The reviews were great, so I decided to give it a try. It was FUN! There are workouts, continuous workouts, that are put together and are customizable. You can create your own workout. And there is the 30 day challenge with 3 levels.

I did one pre-designed workout and loved it. Then I put the box away and hadn't touched it since. That is until today. I put new batteries in the Wii Balance Board (not required for this workout), pulled out the EA workout box and decided to try the 30 day challenge. I loved it! It was really fun and no annoying bitch narrator! Yes, you have a "personal trainer", but I wasn't annoyed by her at all. The music is cool and you can even choose what type of music you want in the 30 day challenge. The scenery changes and, for working out in cartoon world, is pretty. You'd think that would be enough to inspire me, right? Right?!

Unfortunately, no. I have even been known to work out for a year and then suddenly stop for five years. So people, I know you workout fanatics are out there, motivate me! Inspire me! Help me find a way to keep going! Ready, set, go!

One thing that worked for me when I was last in a good home workout routine (how many years ago was that?...) was to find a good series I hadn't already seen on DVD or Netflix instant view & only let myself watch an episode if I was on the elliptical trainer (or treadmill, in your case).

That's all I got...sorry. I'm subscribing to the follow-up comments 'cause I could use some motivation too. ;)

Sherry, that is an *excellent* idea! I really, really like that! And as soon as I can find someone to help me turn my treadmill around to face the TV I will do that. Unfortunately, at the moment, the treadmill faces the wall.

I'm hoping for lots of good ideas from my friends in the blogosphere. Hopefully, they'll help you, too!

Good luck. Here is what works for me: I love working out and watching tv. I get to catch up on old seasons of HBO shows on Netflicks. I love the 30 Day Shred by Jillian Micheals. You really do see results quickly, which is why I'm doing the workouts again.

My ET is in my bedroom where I don't have a TV. I watch on the laptop--or sometimes I use the portable DVD player if Rick is using the laptop. They will both balance on my ET's magazine stand. Any way you could rig something like that 'til you get it turned around?

The laptop wouldn't work for me. With WiFi, Netflix streams too slowly and the picture quality is bad. BUT, I have a solution! My sister and her fiance are here for dinner tonight. I asked if they would help me turn the treadmill. Yippee!! I really like the idea of watching a series I've never seen to keep me entertained while walking.

I'm doing the 30 day EA Active Challenge, but on my "rest" days I will use the treadmill. SMT, I think the 30 day shred is way too intense for me right now...maybe one day.

Anyway, thanks for the idea ladies! I'm looking forward to more ideas on how to stay motivated.

Ooh! One thing I'm doing is having Freckle (over at suchlovelyfreckles.blogspot.com) keep tabs on me. She called me today to check and see if I'd worked out. You rock Freckle!

The treadmill is now facing the TV! Woo hoo!! Thanks sis and fbil, you rock! I'm off to Netflix to find a series to load into my instant queue.

Sorry, I wish I had some really cool ideas. As it is, I have to figure out a way to get my own a%# fitting back into my clothes.

I see a renewal of my love/hate (mostly hate) relationship with my stationary bike.

But you definitely have my support and encouragement. :)

Thanks, Zayna! I was sure I'd find more bloggy inspiration, but support rocks, too. I did day 2 of the 30 day challenge on EA Sports Active. (Yay me!) Today they designate a "rest day", but I will be hitting the treadmill and watching season 1 of either 30 Rock or Heroes. (Thanks Sherry & SMT) Any recommendations or opinions about TV shows out there?

More series suggestions on instant view:

Weeds (Seasons 1 & 2)
Friday Night Lights

And these documentaries:
King Corn
Super Size Me
Food, Inc.

Excellent, Sherry! Thanks! I've watched Super Size Me and Food, Inc. In fact, I was planning to blog about Food, Inc. soon. I haven't seen King Corn, though. I'll have to check that out as well as the two series you suggested.

Try Doctor Who (start with season 1, 220).....good stuff I tell ya! I don't usually like sci-fi, but love this series!

You have encouraged me to get my butt up and moving as well. Now to balance it into my day. Going to look up EA Sports Active now.

Doctor Who? Really? Huh! I just went out to Netflix...I had no idea they re-made the show. I've never seen it, but heck! I'll give it a go! Thanks, Lisa.

Let me know what you think of the EA Sports Active. Princess loves it, too! Once the accessory kit arrives, she and I can work out together!

I am so there with you! Doing a kindof modified low carb thing myself and hoping to figure out a way to exercise with my injury even though the PT told me I am basically supposed to do nothing! :/

PS You have short toes lol. Or maybe I just have long toes!

LOL, Lisa...short toes. Exercising with an injury can be a challenge. I hope you recover quickly!!

P.S. Thanks for stopping by my blog!
