When I Was a Wild Child

For those of you who read Such Lovely Freckles post about being a flirt, you know that I said that I would share something from my wild past. I wish I had as good a memory as Freckle. Her Blast From the Past post was so detailed. Mine will be less so, but who knows...maybe as I start to write it will come back to me.

I was never a big drinker because back then I didn't like the taste. Now the other stuff, well... Freckle may never have tried any drugs, me, well I’ve done quite a bit. Oh, the stories I could tell you. Which reminds me of one that I actually remember!

My stepbrother was having a party at his dad's apartment. The apartment was practically empty because they were moving out. Perfect place for a party, right? I was dancing and having a blast when I noticed a friend pretend to pop a Quaalude. I saw him spit it out. I walked over, told him I saw and he offered it to me. I took it.

Later that night I decided to leave the party with a friend for some extra-curricular activity. I made the very stupid decision to drive. Leaving the complex, I was driving down a fairly narrow road with cars parked on both sides. In my Quaalude stupor, it looked as if the cars were moving in and out. I just couldn't make the steering wheel turn. BANG!! I hit a parked car.

We got out of there fast and headed back to my house for said extra-curricular activity. When we were done we decided to go back to the party. Unfortunately the way the car hit caused the metal from the car to scrape the tire and eventually it sliced it.

As my friend was changing the tire, well trying to...he was putting it on backwards, a police officer stopped to see what we were doing. He asked what happened. We told him we hit a tree. His response? A tree with brown paint, like the car that got hit in the apartment complex? Oops! Busted! Then he asks my friend if he'd been drinking. My friend said he hadn't been. The officer looked at him and said "really". My friend responds with "okay, I won't lie to you". The officer says "you just did". Oh crap! We are so busted!

I got a ticket for reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident. The officer had no idea that I had taken anything because by that point I was totally straight.

My father knew a big wig in the police department and had the reckless driving charge dropped. When I went to court for the other charge I walked in to see a friend from high school who was working (co-op) for the judge. I got off with a warning. This may not be a story to share with the kids. There doesn't seem to be a moral, but I really did learn my lesson. I never drove while on Quaalude again. Wait? Isn't there a better moral? Hmmm....what could that be?

This could totally have been a memory from my past. If you substitute Quaalude for 4 Bacardi Breezers. And minus the ticket, because I never got caught when I hit a parked car (or drove someone else's car into a ditch, as it were.)

No wonder you're so forgetful! Must have been all those Quaaludes! Ha ha ha....

I love memories! Yeah mine would involve a bong and then feeling like i was floating as I ran across a heavily trafficked street...ahh memories.

Oooh, Shady Lady's shady past! Love it, and goes to show that not all experimentation turns people into drug addicts.

I've never tried quaaludes, pot was more my style during high school. Once I smoked some hash during a party... not sure how I got home that night.

It seems there are quite a few of us with a shady past. ;) And yes, it's true not all experimentation leads to addiction. Believe me, I did a lot of experimenting...
